Lotus appears in the article I wrote for The Teddy Bears Times and Friends after her restoration work.  Issue No. 273

After investigations and looking through books and google I came to the conclusion this Puppy Dog case with it's original robust zip marked "Brit Made" was a creation by the quality producing toy makers Alpha Farnell. The British company that produced the original Winnie-the-Pooh teddy bear.

Lotus is in a very play worn condition, she retains some fur and the balding sections are quite fragile.

All her facial features are original, even her little red felt tongue

Her internal green satin pouch was in tatters and is still in place and is hidden with the new colour matched green satin pocket.

I have also created a matching green satin pouch to fill her pocket to help her keep her tummy full.

If you would like any further information or photos, please feel free to ask .

Below is the relevant section from my article "Puppy Pandemic"

"I remembered the green satin fabric from a previous modern vintage restoration job and was over the moon when I found it a good match to the tatty remains.  The original tatty pocket is still in place, but now hidden with a new one. I then made Lotus, a purse style toy has a very robust zip with “Brit Made” stamped on it. I came to the conclusion that she is possibly all Brit made by Alpha Farnell. She does look very much like the Steiff Charly purse with zipper in my new book, however I looked more closely at the details.  Yes I did try to enlarge the photo on the page of the book like I do on my smartphone - it made me giggle at myself.

The difference is in the face, the dark coloured snout, a felt tongue and the nose stitching differs.  Again I have seen similar on the Internet with the same facial features being named as Alpha Farnell, backed up with the all important label, so I am quite comfortable to say she is made by Alpha Farnell.

Lotus looks like she has been living in very damp conditions and can no longer stand.  Her fur is balding, the metal work that supports her legs is so rusted it is crumbling and it has damaged the fabric. Her internal satin pouch is also in tatters.

Yet she still has her original eyes, nose and mouth, even her cheeky little red felt tongue is still intact.

A hole in her left foot was underlined with an aged matching piece of mohair, other holes were darned and repaired. Some replacement excelsior was used as the original stuffing was deteriorating, new leg wires were put into place.

a small satin cushion to fill and support her body. I thought it was wise not to bring Lotus in contact with any water whatsoever, she has only received a very gentle brush.

As you can see from the photo she looks a much happier dog, being able to stand independently."
