Yoshi
The name means looking good or lucky.
Yes you may have guessed I was influenced by the Disney Film, Dr Dolittle which has a loveable polar bear called Yoshi 🙂
As you can see from the first photo Yoshi did not feel as if he was fulfilling his name. He was not lucky in so much as he had lost his nose and therefore was not looking good. Even his stuffing was letting him down and his neck was sagging, perhaps Yoshi simply trying to hide the fact he had lost his nose and felt ashamed and was trying to hide his face.
My first priority was to give Yoshi a nose. It is difficult to find vintage replacement noses, however this modern dog style nose is a good replacement. The main difference between Yoshi’s nose and the others is that he does not have the dimples and is very shiny - now who else is there whose nose was a little different and shiny and lived at the North Pole?
Yoshi has a non-working squeaker, but not the rubber style that Lars has, but the traditional card spring operated one. I decided not to replace this, but did bind it up so that spring could not work its way to the surface to cause any future damage.
Yoshi is the third out of the four bears to need a few stitches to secure the seam to the right of the snout.
Like Lars he also has the three dot paw markings which I was careful not to lose when cleaning.
Yoshi in the film wore a nordic style hat with ear flaps and this Chiltern Yoshi really liked the look of Lars and so the knitting needles were clicking once again to give this shy bear some comfort and warmth.
