Kallik has fur coverage for her age. As with all musical bears of this age she has the usual bald circular patch where the key to the music box has been wound up. She has been given a new music box and can sing her Brahms Lullaby once again.
Below is a section from my article which describes what TLC she needed when I rescued her to make her adoption ready.
Kallik
In the Inuit culture, if used as a first name it means lightning, and if a surname means a place of many fish.
The first bear, going from left to right of the four teddies in the photo. She is one of the musical bears and the one previously mentioned that will receive a new replacement music box. The box is fitted inside the existing internal cotton pocket, the key is then placed through the brass ring and screwed into the box. She now happily plays her tune of Brahms Lullaby once again, which is so nice to listen to as I type, being oh so careful not to over wind of course.
As usual I have diverted my attention and gone off down a rabbit hole to investigate the name. Kallik is the name of the Polar Bear in the books for young adults, The Seekers by Erin Hunter. A series of 6 books about four bears, a Polar, a Black and two Grizzly bear cubs following their struggles for survival due to changing environment and human interference and their quest to find a safe place to live without humans.
On first appearance you would be forgiven in thinking that she does not need any repairs carried out. However, when grooming her fur I noticed that the front tummy seam was coming loose under the chin and the right side of her snout needed some discreet darning and then the seam attaching the snout to the face needed reinforcement.
A Spa session including a surface clean, another brush and fluff and nose and eyes receiving a clean as well. Kallik requested a simple neck warmer to help protect from the harsher moments of weather at the North Pole
